I went to go see Miyazaki Hayao's Laputa tonight at the Egyptian. I have seen this film hundreds of times over the past 25 years- on Japanese tv for holiday special screenings and later on a tattered VHS tape (dubbed from Laser Disc!) bought from a video rental store in Little Tokyo. I'm now in the production phase of the public art commission for Fire Station 128. Usually I've pretty much been a lustre gal, but the plexi/aluminum mounting calls for glossy; and apparently there's something called super glossy these days, with 350 year archival longevity! I was at my local 99 Ranch Market (a Chinese Market chain) in Hacienda Heights the other day and was super stoked to discover Taiwanese spinach, very much similar to spinach found in Japan- dark green, really thick leaves and stalks. Seems like you get a whole lot more spinach for, well, the spinach. Café Kiss of the World is a room with a door curtain, some clocks, photographs, poems, a jigsaw puzzle, and a light breeze.
